About the Artist
Art has always been a freedom. It has been a place where the world becomes silent, the only objects that exist are the materials laying before me, and in the work there is peace.
It has been as vital a function as breathing.
The art even tends to speak more than I do.
Because where words have fallen short, Art has provided an unrestricted source of communication.
In each piece are subconscious memories and experiences. There are conscious and even unconscious references to every aspect of my life. Using these references the art embodies the moods, actions, changes, emotions, and feelings through my perception in a way that articulates the very conditions experienced during a these periods of life.
Each piece is born from those subconscious memories and experiences. Once on paper they begin to grow. At first as reminders of the perspectives and impressions most associated with the events, and from those emotions the piece starts to bud. How will the materials, size, and space of the work strengthen the image? That one question is always such a vital life source to any of my pieces. The water of life. By the time the work blooms it's a beautifully haunting reflection of remembrance.
Since we are continuously changing as people that very idea is constantly reflected in the work. Mediums and materials are always changing along with the style to express a deeper understanding and push the viewer to really sense the emotions and dive deep into the concept of each piece.
[Phan•Tasm] was born from these works of art.
Each piece an image created from the imagination, an objective reality, that tests the harmonious balance between light and dark, beauty and horror. It is a reflection on the way we live each day trying to balance out our emotions and feelings hiding the dark behind beauty or missing the light in hard times.
Each work is a piece of life and in a way has a life of its own.
